Destination Spotlight: Costa Rica

Oh, how I so love this beautiful country, Costa Rica. Even when I’m working, I’m still in bliss with the natural backdrop of the ocean and sunsets. Just two weeks ago I went on a site inspection to look at a few spots for an event. This gorgeous pool overlooking the ocean was just breathtaking and inspiring. I just might have to marry myself one day!

What’s Now – Color and Design

I was flipping through Decor Magazine and came across an article on one of my favorite interior designers Kelly Wearstler. She is the mastermind designer behind all The Viceroy Hotels, Tides South Beach to name a few. Here are some great tips from her book “Hue” on how to find and incorporate color in your home design and– well I think it’s great inspiration for your wedding or event too!

Her five best tips include:

Perfect Harmony – Consider the setting when selecting a pallet for your space. For a beach theme, choose calming, bleached-out hues. If it’s urban locale, bolder jewel tones would work.
High Depth – Get bold. Select a dark color to create drama.
Use Colors in your wardrope as inspiration – She used a decorative button from a London Shop that sparked a design concept for an entire space.
Fashionable Eye – Use colors in your wardrobe as inspiraton. Shades that flatter you in fashion will have the same effect in your decor. A decorative button or
Pattern Maker – Think beyond a solid color, especially in a smaller room: paint a graphic design on a single wall. If you love circles, stripes, incorporate them into your style
Natural Selection – Take a cue from Mother Nature and dream up some unique combinations. I personally like exotic bright flowers, big banana leaves and bamboo accents, anything naturally made from the earth.

On Sundays I like to reflect and share simple things that make me smile like family, nature, love, and friendship. This morning I woke up and recieved this email from my cousin Yousef who is like a brother to me.

Wow, I thought, he’s carrying the Olympic Torch for the 201 0 Vancouver Olympics. I though how exhilarating that must feel but I was mostly moved by his glow and smile. His smile is contagious. Make be proud cousin.

I’m smiling now. Have a beautiful simple sunday!

I think maps are a neat way to connect with your guests. When designing your next invitation why not include a fun illustrated map to guide guests to the event. For example, if you’ve decided to have a wedding in a special location like your hometown include a simple, colorful map that features some of your fave areas. Maybe you want to take your guests to Paris, so why not feature some of the spots you adore. It could be a local cafe terrace you frequent, favorite historic museum or the italian restaurant that you always rave about. Your guests can connect with you and share what is meaningful and special to you.
